Manual
Message navigation
Use AI-MarkDone to move through long ChatGPT threads and return to your reading position after sending a new prompt.
Use this when
You often read older answers inside a long ChatGPT thread. Once the thread gets long, scrolling becomes expensive. If you send a new prompt while reading, it is also easy to lose the exact spot you were using.
Where to open it
These features work directly on the ChatGPT page. To adjust them, open the AI-MarkDone extension panel, go to Settings, then find ChatGPT page behavior.
How to use it
- Open a long ChatGPT conversation.
- Use the lower-right Previous / Next buttons to move between nearby messages.
- If you prefer the keyboard, keep Use arrow keys to move between messages enabled in Settings.
- When reading an older message, send a new prompt when needed.
- With Restore position after sending enabled, AI-MarkDone tries to bring you back to the spot you were reading.
What each switch controls
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Restore position after sending | On | When reading older messages, sending a new message brings you back to your reading position. |
| Show lower-right message buttons | On | Show the small Previous and Next message buttons on ChatGPT conversation pages. |
| Use arrow keys to move between messages | On | Left and Right move to the previous or next message when you are not typing. Inside the ChatGPT input box, they still move the cursor. |
Worth knowing
- Arrow keys only switch messages when you are not typing. Inside the ChatGPT input box, they still move the cursor.
- Restore position after sending tries to return quickly, but the page may briefly move while ChatGPT is rendering.
- If you want the quietest page possible, you can hide the lower-right buttons and keep keyboard navigation.
